Coffee vs. Tea: Which one is best for College Students

If you are a college student, we are sure that you function the whole day with caffeine, right? It’s okay if you do because, trust me, that seems the only way! Whether it is tea or coffee, one or another form of caffeine is a must!

However, have you ever wondered which one is the best for you as a college student? Tea or Coffee? Or both? Or none of these? If you are confused and looking for an answer, then you have landed on the right page!

There are a lot of myths about tea and coffee both; caffeinated drinks are not good for your health, they destroy your organs, etc. But seriously, these myths are just myths. Both coffee and tea have their benefits, and they can help in their own ways.

To help you better understand, we are sharing when and in what conditions coffee and tea can help you, respectively. But before diving into that, let us briefly go through the difference between herbal and non-herbal teas. Keep Reading!

Difference Between Herbal & Non-Herbal Teas

The tea leaves extracted from Camellia Sinensis, a plant, are called “Non-Herbal Teas” or “True Teas”. The leaves extracted from any other plant are known as Herbal Teas.

True/non-herbal teas include black, white, green, and oolong. While on the other hand, you can find herbal teas in various flavors, from peppermint to peach to chamomile.

Coffee vs. Tea: What is better for College Students?

Honestly, it is hard for us to pick one and say this is the best and the other one is not. However, we have compiled a list of common situations that college students usually face in their lives. Now we will see which drink will work better in what situation; coffee or tea?

To help Focus:

Here is a supposed situation: You are in a hurry and need to complete a task urgently assigned by your tutor/teacher. But for that, you really need to focus, and the problem is that you can’t. So, what should you have in this situation? Tea or Coffee? We will tell you.

In this situation, you will need a lot of caffeine (probably 90 to 100 mg) to increase your brain activity and eliminate fatigue and sleepiness. With that being said, coffee has the highest amount of caffeine in it. So, coffee is the ideal option in this case.

However, keep in mind that a lot of caffeine is not good for health either. Therefore, only opt for this method when you have a really important and big exam or assignment. If the work is not urgent and the deadline is far, you can opt for black tea.

For All-Nighters

All-nighters are one of the most important parts of college life and the most dreadful too. Whether it is in an exam or completing an urgent assignment, all-nighters are a must! However, pulling an all-nighter is not easy, especially when you are not used to it. You must be thinking that 3 or 4 cups of coffee are the ideal option in this situation, right? NO, it is not.

This much coffee will make you feel shaky, nauseous, and weird. So, instead of opting for coffee, try drinking black tea for all-nighters. Why? Well, because black teas have the highest caffeine rate out of all teas. Most importantly, even 4 or 5 cups of coffee would not have any side effects!

To Sleep Peacefully

Caffeine and sleep are not friends, and I think you probably know that by now. Therefore, if you want to have a nap or sleep peacefully, never drink a caffeinated drink, whether tea or coffee.

However, you can drink some herbal teas before going to bed. These herbal teas can be lavender, chamomile, and peppermint. These three herbal teas are known to treat insomnia and help you relax. Also, herbal teas have absolutely no caffeine!

For Sickness

Being sick is one of the most dreadful and frustrating things about college, especially if you are a freshman and not around your family. In this case, green tea will be your savior! Green tea has many healing properties and millions of other health benefits to offer. Whether it is fever, flu, or cold, green tea will help you fight them all!

For Perfect Mental Health

Last but not least, taking care of your mental health as a college student is a must. And for optimum mental health, herbal teas are the best option! Here we are not saying that caffeine is bad for your mental health. No, it is not. However, a high amount of caffeine can cause depression, anxiety, and other mental health issues.

Therefore, control your caffeine intake so that you don’t face any mental health issues.

Final Words

There is no specific answer to the question, Coffee vs. Tea: Which one is best for College Students? Each has its benefits, disadvantages, and qualities. Just choose your drinks according to the situation, your health, and the overall scenario.
